The meetings provide a forum, disseminate information, and provide educational opportunities in organic petrology, as prescribed in the Bylaws.

TRANSPORTATION information

ACCOMMODATIONS: The meeting will be held at the Sheraton Denver West Hotel*. This hotel is located in Lakewood, Colorado, west of Denver. It is about 55km (35 miles) from Denver International Airport, easily accessed by major highways. Attendees should plan to stay at the Sheraton.

Short course: $35. Sunday afternoon, half day. Basics of Organic Petrography: Sample preparation to reflectance data acquisition; microscope equipment to data quality and accreditation.

Field Trip to western Colorado: $ 185. See DETAILS for participants. A special overnight trip to the Piceance Basin near Rifle, Colorado. This will be conducted as a trip by van to various vantage points to see the Mahogany ledge zone of the Green River Formation, a significant oil shale deposit. Attendance limited to 26 people.

LOCAL FIELD TRIPS: see DETAILS
  •     Denver Museum of Natural History. $35. Monday, half day.
  •     Dinosaur Ridge: walk along roadside outcrops with dinosaur
footprints and see geology of Denver's Front Range. $35. Tuesday, half day.
