ATSC Diploma in Meteorology

The Diploma in Meteorology offers an intensive one-year program in theoretical and applied meteorology. It is designed for students with little or no background in meteorology who wish to direct their experience to environmental applications or to gain employment as a meteorologist.

Admission is based on an acceptable academic record (usually a bachelor's degree in physics, applied mathematics, engineering or similar disciplines). Typically this should include about 27 credits of mathematics (up to introduction to partial differential equations) and computer science (including some numerical analysis), and 21 credits of physics.

The diploma program requires a minimum of 30 credits of coursework in the atmospheric and related sciences. Please refer to the U.B.C. Calendar for descriptions of available courses. Each student will plan an individual program in consultation with the Associate Chair of the Atmospheric Science program (Dr. Phil Austin). Since some courses are given in alternate years, the recommended courses can be slightly different depending on whether the winter session starts in an even numbered (e.g. 2006, 2008...) or an odd numbered (e.g. 2007, 2009,...) year.

If you are currently registered at UBC and wish to change your program or campus, you must fill out a "Change of Program of Campus" form at the Student Service Centre and pay the $60.00 non-refundable application fee.

Form can be found on the UBC web site: http://www.welcome.ubc.ca/admission.cfm?page=readmission
