Double Major and Minor Programs

Double Major Program

A Double Major B.Sc. can be earned by completing all of the Major requirements for each of two different B.Sc. programs.
  • For Geology, the relevant Major requirements would be 30 credits of upper-level geology, plus the lower-level prerequisites.
  • Courses taken to meet Faculty of Science requirements (such as first-year English and the 12 credits elective Arts) would apply to both halves of a double program.
  • In most cases, the breadth requirement would be met by a second Major, but if Geology were doubled with a related Earth Science (Geophysics or Geography), then this 9-credit breadth requirement would also have to be met.
  • Please also consult the UBC Calender Graduation Requirements

Minor Programs

A Minor in Science, Arts or in Commerce can be earned in conjunction with any Science Honours or Major program.

However there are some restrictions: see the UBC Calendar under Faculty of Science Co-op and Minor Options for details. In particular, "Students majoring in one of the earth science programs (Earth and Ocean Science, Geography, Geology, Geophysics, Oceanography) may not undertake a Minor in Geography" (UBC Calender).
