EOSC 421 - Advanced Sedimentology

Course Description

Description and interpretation of ancient and modern sediments, with emphasis on the origin, composition, textures, structures, diagenesis and chemistry of biogenic sediments.

Course Content

Course Theme:  Facies Models, Tectonics and Sedimentation

The course is divided into two sections.  The concepts of  sedimentary facies and sedimentary environments are explored in detail in the first half of the course.  The second part of the course looks at sedimentation in specific tectonic settings.
